No Place for Bravery has checkpoints similar to Dark Souls but it is not set up as a brutally challenging Soulslike experience or even a roguelike. It’s like a more horrific and brutal version of older top-down games in The Legend of Zelda series. What else is there to know? Here is a handy guide to get things started.
8 There’s An Adjustable Difficulty Menu
There are three preset difficulties in the game that automatically adjust a series of bars in the menu. For example, playing on the Story setting will increase how much damage players do to enemies, how weak enemies are, how much defense players get, and so on. Players can then adjust these meters to their liking to create a more desired experience. This flexibility is why assist options in games are so welcomed. It’s always a good idea for players to check these options out even if they don’t sound enticing at first.
7 Grind For Items And Gold Near Save Points
This is an easy tip to bestow on players for any RPG or action game wherein they can level up in some way. In No Place for Bravery, players can acquire gold and items from enemies. These two things can be used to purchase abilities at the save points like a skill tree. If there is a good area that is next to the save point with a high count of enemies, stop there for a while. Grind through as many enemies as possible and then Pray at the save point to then respawn them. This is a great way to stockpile gold and items.
6 Pay No Attention To The Prologue
The beginning of the game may seem like a legitimate start featuring Thorn running after his son. It’s always great to start an action game wherein players get to control things right away. However, this is all a dream and any item acquired in this dream will not carry over into the first act.

It’s good to know this before starting No Place for Bravery as it tells players not to grind. No one wants to lose items or gold in a game. So, the best plan is to cruise through the dream as quickly as possible without exploring too much.
5 When In Doubt, Cut Grass
There are grass fields and flowers all over this game. Sometimes items can be hidden in them and sometimes they can reveal hidden paths. If players are ever lost, they should hack away at the grass as Link can in The Legend of Zelda games. Sometimes, it feels like players cut more grass in that series than they do killing monsters or solving puzzles. Players will definitely battle more enemies in No Place for Bravery, but they should also not ignore this tip about the grass.
4 Take Down Archers ASAP
There are a huge amount of archers and ranged enemy types in the game. It should go without saying that ranged enemies should be disposed of in No Place for Bravery as quickly as possible. This is a tip that transcends all action games as ranged enemies can be a pain in the butt. Thankfully, ranged characters in this game, and in most games, are weaker and are thus easy to dispose of. Getting to them is the tricky part, but just ignore all other enemies until these ranged types are gone.
3 Defend Like A Champion
A good way to blast through enemies to get to the archers is to roll past them. Players can dodge at any time, which does use up stamina. Blocking with a shield will also deplete this meter as well as attacks with the sword, for example.

Attacking is important but so is keeping Thorn alive. A good strategy in an action game is to use all resources at the player’s disposal which counts dodging and blocking with the shield. A good offense is a strong defense as they say.
2 Knowing Your Healing Items
Players will get three types of healing items early on in the game. There are scrolls that will create healing circles that will recharge health as long as Thorn is inside of it. There are various healing globules that will recharge health as well for a given amount of time without the need for a healing circle. The strongest healing items are potions that automatically fill up a certain amount of health. Potions are rarer and more expensive if found in shops, so they should be used sparingly compared to other resources.
1 Don’t Fret Over Dialogue Choices
There are dialogue choices that will eventually appear in No Place for Bravery. While they may seem important at the moment, these choices are a bit superficial unlike a lot of other RPGs with them. Most choices will not affect the game’s story beyond that encounter. Eventually, some things will start to weave more into Thorn’s life. However, players shouldn’t fret over what consequences their choices will create. Pick one based on your gut feeling and then applaud whatever the results create even if they are bad. It’s important to embrace bad choices in any game that presents them to create more unique and personal experiences.
No Place For Bravery was released on September 22, 2022, and is available on PC and Switch.
