RELATED: Things We Did And Didn’t Love About No More Heroes 3
One great thing that this series was known for was its bosses. The hero, Travis Touchdown, had to take on an international band of assassins all in the name of love in the first two games. This time Travis had to save Earth from alien assassins so the scales were even more over-the-top. Let’s rank out who was the most fun to fight of the main eleven bosses in No More Heroes 3.
11 Henry Cooldown
Henry Cooldown is the third to last main boss and is the estranged brother of Travis. His last name should be a read giveaway even for those that haven’t played the series. He looks like a villain from The Matrix what with his glasses and black clothing although his dual-beam swords say otherwise. It’s a cool fight but not much extraordinary happens in it. It seems like a precursor to what the next game will hold.
10 Native Dancer
Native Dancer is the first misdirect in No More Heroes 3. Travis is supposed to fight Black Night Direction before Native Dancer swoops in for the kill. The best part about this fight is that this strong cyber ninja gives Travis new moves to use in battle. It also brings up a cool mystery in the game for players to solve even though the results are obvious. The fight itself is nothing fantastic though.
9 Destroyman True Face
Destroyman is a mainstay villain in the series who keeps coming back. This time he is assisted by a cloned robotic army of himself. It’s a regular attack of the clones.

This is an interesting take for a boss fight, throwing multiple villains at the player at once. Nothing they, or the main Destroyman, do is that flashy but it’s still a unique fight in No More Heroes 3, and hopefully this time he stays dead.
8 Gold Joe
Gold Joe, as his name might imply, is a giant golden robot. His quirk is mining ore that he then turns into weapons. This has nothing to do with the fight but it does kind of come to play in the end. What his fight does involve is magnets, forcing players to deal with repulsion based on colors. It seemed more complicated in the story leading up to the battle but figuring out the magnets was actually pretty easy.
7 Fu
Fu was set up to be the big villain of No More Heroes 3 and he mostly is. Unfortunately, his fight is not that memorable which is odd for any lead villain in a game. He has some cool hair powers in his first form but his second form felt a little uninspired.
Players have to dodge giant hands he warps in through gates which is a copycat power from a previous fight. It was a little anticlimactic but it still gets a higher ranking than others because of the cool cutscenes around it.
6 Damon
Damon is actually the final boss in the game. After he kills Fu he summons a giant robot wherein Travis likewise gets to summon a mech as well. The downside to this is that the boss fight is played out through quick-time events and credit scenes.

It’s also a little anticlimactic like Fu’s fight. However, what is cool is the actual final fight after this wherein players must face him in a Super Smash Bros. style arena. Maybe this is foreshadowing Travis as the final DLC character.
5 Mr. Blackhole
Mr. Blackhole is the very first main boss in the game. He sets a high bar for the game as he has two forms, which most other bosses don’t. The first is melee-focused with the same warping powers as Fu’s.
In the next form, players will fly around space in a mech fight. That’s two final bosses that reuse this first boss’ gimmick. That’s a little odd but it’s also high praise in a way since Mr. Blackhole got a lot right. Starting the game this exciting is a win.
4 Velvet Chair Girl
Velvet Chair Girl is a very odd fight in that players will literally play a game of musical chairs. It’s set up like a rhythm-based game wherein players tap to the beat, which is accompanied by a sick rap.
Once the timer stops, players must race to a chair. It’s one of many weird boss twists in this game. Afterward, players must then fight her pet, Ohma, who can kill players in a single shot while it shouts, “Adrian!”
3 Midori Midorikawa
Midori Midorikawa is a fun name to say on its own but the setup and fight are also interesting. Before the fight begins players must travel through a spooky school in first-person like a modern horror game.
It’s not that terrifying since Travis is fully armed but it is a good mood setter. Midori’s hand puppet powers are also just cool to witness and there are plenty of fun lines to remember throughout this whole arc. Plus her becoming an ally was a nice twist.
2 Sonic Juice
Sonic Juice houses himself inside a giant membrane body. Visually he’s not that interesting to look at compared to some other bosses but his fight is an RPG fan’s dream. It begins as homage to the Final Fantasy series and is probably a specific nod to Final Fantasy 8. A lot of the dialogue is bleeped out for comedic effect so it’s a little hard to tell. It’s unique, fun, and the action fight afterward is a good finale.
1 Kimmy Love
Kimmy Love is another boss replacement as she takes out Vanishing Point for Travis. Her actual fight with him, while cool in its concert setting, is not that flashy. What makes this the best fight in No More Heroes 3 though is the rap battle beforehand.
It’s not the slickest rhymes anyone will ever hear in a game, but its messy setup adds to the charm of this over-the-top game. It is THE fight to showcase to others why this series is so special.
