Sean Murray, managing director and founder of Hello Games, made the 1.3 update announcement in an email sent out to Waking Titan participants. Those following the ARG helped form the Citizen Science Division, the newsletter group that received this email. With the ARG now complete, Murray framed it as directly leading into the content of Atlas Rises. Murray says that members of the Citizen Science Division have, “become part of the No Man’s Sky origin story.”
Followers of the Waking Titan ARG will discover exactly what Murray means this week, as the Atlas Rises update will be freely available for No Man’s Sky players as soon as tomorrow. While the story rework and portals are known to be included, patch notes might have additional surprises for players.
Sean Murray also took the opportunity to reminisce in the email, since it’s the first time in a while that he’s spoken to the No Man’s Sky community. Murray mentions that it’s No Man’s Sky’s anniversary and how the year has been “exciting, intense, and emotional,” and how the team has spent the year dedicated to creating free updates for this project the team “cares about so much.”
Waking Titan was Hello Games’ way of re-establishing communication and celebrating the No Man’s Sky community. More than that, Murray’s language seems to imply that the end of the ARG and the release of Atlas Rises is meant to be a new beginning for No Man’s Sky. Really, it’s already started with the establishment of the Citizen Science Division, which Murray encourages more No Man’s Sky players to join by visiting the group’s official forums.
Perhaps the most poignant part of Sean Murray’s letter is its final line:
No Man’s Sky is available now on PC and PlayStation 4. Update 1.3, Atlas Rises, will go live before the end of the week.
