No Man’s Sky has been one of the most astounding redemption stories in the history of games. Since the NEXT update, the title has completely flipped public opinion, even upgrading the game’s overall review status on Steam. Now, one player has gone even further to share their newfound admiration of the game, constructing a massive monument to Game Director Sean Murray that is visible from the planet’s atmosphere.
The monument was created by Twitter user Roland Oberheim, who used a seemingly basic assortment of floor panels to construct the massive, 37x50 shrine. The monument is an incredibly detailed photo of Sean Murray’s face in black and white, beard and all. Oberheim was even kind of enough to share the portal code to reach the monument, so any curious players can pop by and check out the shrine for themselves. Oberheim wasn’t quite crazy enough to construct the monument out of gathered materials, instead opting to build it in the game’s creative mode, which supplies players with infinite crafting resources.
The monument was popular enough to even grab Sean Murray’s attention, who lovingly replied to Oberheim on Twitter, voicing his admiration of the project.
Hopefully, Oberheim, who wasn’t expecting any recognition for his labor, has had time to bask in Murray’s response since the post went viral. This is also quite the upgrade for Murray, who is more used to receiving death threats than positive feedback.
It’s not often that gamers go so far to honor game developers, but it’s always a great story when they do. After all, developers work incredibly hard to bring gamers world-class experiences, so players showing their appreciation for that hard work must be quite the payoff. Who knows, maybe even more developer faces will begin popping up around the planet. It would be great to see other members of Hello Games, or even developers from other studios, dot the planet’s landscape.
No Man’s Sky will likely have even more stories surrounding it in the coming months. The NEXT update completely shook the game’s foundation, and Hello Games has promised even more content for the title in the coming months.
No Man’s Sky is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
