The play in question: Cubs catcher Willson Contreras’ tag of Adrian Gonzalez to end the bottom of the second inning in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series. Gonzalez tried to score from second base on Andrew Toles’ single to Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward.

The replay crew, composed of major league umpires sitting in MLB’s New York video center, upheld the call by home platge umpire Angel Hernandez.

Suffice it to say, the capacity crowd at Dodger Stadium disagreed, especially after seeing the play in super slo-mo multiple times on the stadium’s video board.
Real-time explanations are rare when it comes to replay review, but MLB released a statement to the media at Dodger Stadium minutes after the review ended:
Contreras later drove in the game’s official first run with an RBI single in the fourth inning. The Cubs later expanded their lead to 4-0 in that frame.
UPDATE: The Cubs went on to win 10-2 and even the series at two games apiece.
