Omega was interviewed recently about the match and said it will be “the fairest way” to test their skills.

In Case You Didn’t Know

Okada and Omega had three singles matches in 2017 that many fans consider the greatest matches of all time.

The IWGP Championship was on the line in their first two encounters at Wrestle Kingdom 11 and Dominion 2017, but their final confrontation would be a non-title match in the semi-finals of the G1 Climax 27.

The Heart of the Matter

Omega spoke with Tokyo Sports and said that Osaka was a special place to him and reflected on his previous encounters with the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.

The last IWGP World Championship match that had no time restrictions occurred in 2008 when Kurt Angle defended the title against Shinsuke Nakamura, but many expect Okada and Omega to surpass the one hour mark - especially since their last match at Dominion lasted a full hour.

Omega also said that his training with Kota Ibushi has made him a better fighter and that he wants Ibushi in his corner for moral support.

What’s Next?

As the name suggests, Dominion 6.9 in Osaka-jo Hall will take place on Saturday, June 9 at Osaka-jo Hall in Osaka, Japan.

By the time the pay-per-view comes around, Okada would have been champion for over 700 days.

Author’s Take

The matches between Omega and Okada have all been modern-day classics, but their next bout will have even more eyes on it as NJPW continues to grow their audience in America.

To say that expectations are high for this match is a massive understatement.
