The Virtual Console was appealing to nostalgic Nintendo fans who wanted to replay classics that sometimes came with a few tweaks, yet those fans were shot down when a Nintendo Spokesperson officially stated, “there are currently no plans to bring classic games together under the Virtual Console banner as has been done on other Nintendo Systems.”

Considering rumors since the system’s launch had led many Nintendo fans to believe that the Switch’s Virtual Console would include GameCube games, this could be potentially a hit to the otherwise successful console. The inclusion of the Virtual Console on the Switch could help the company hit its 20-million-unit goal, but the Switch is popular enough to possibly do this without the Virtual Console.

Nevertheless, the exclusion of the Virtual Console doesn’t mean that classic games are going to be ignored entirely. Games such as Blazing Star and Fatal Fury have already received Switch Ports, with Sega also announcing plans to bring its Genesis games to the Nintendo Switch. While this seems like a nail in the coffin of the Virtual Console, at least the games are still coming to Nintendo’s latest hybrid console.

While this may prove to be contentious to diehard Nintendo fans, it’s not exactly controversial and doesn’t seem likely to hurt the Switch. One longstanding controversy, however, has recently been given some much-needed attention, with Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft receiving letters warning the companies to remove “Warranty Void If Removed” stickers from their devices, which has prevented at-home repairs for some time.
