RELATED: Genshin Impact: Other Games With Insane Gacha Features

Though Genshin Impact is a fun experience, there are plenty of other RPGs that have similar gameplay elements that fans will want to check out. Nintendo Switch owners in particular have a lot of RPG options to add to their must-play list.

Updated November 27, 2022, by Ritwik Mitra: Genshin Impact was written off as nothing more than a free-to-play Breath of the Wild clone before release, but the game’s surprisingly engaging gameplay, a wealth of content, and a cast of memorable characters more than justify it as one of the best free action titles around. Many people have gotten into this great title and might be wondering which games on the Switch match its overall vibe, with the best candidates in this regard being mentioned below.

16 Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the most popular JRPG franchises on the Switch, with these games serving as great examples of amazing open-world design coupled with a fun combat system and memorable characters. The series has been going strong, with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 releasing this year to great pomp and fanfare.

All the problems from its predecessor are addressed with the wealth of new and improved mechanics being a joy to interact with. All in all, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a great addition to the series and a fun choice for fans of Genshin Impact.

15 Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch

Ni no Kuni is a series that needed a really strong debut on home consoles, and it managed to achieve the same with Wrath of the White Witch. It was a strong debut title that almost felt like a Studio Ghibli film in video game form.

While some people had complaints about the game’s combat, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has many good things going for it that more than makeup for an unremarkable combat system. It helps that the sequel works on the many complaints in the first game, with both titles being perfect for Genshin Impact fans.

14 Persona 5 Royal

Fans were glad to see Persona 5 Royal make its way on the Nintendo Switch after what felt like eons of waiting. After all, this release was pretty much written in the cards from the very moment he was included as a playable DLC fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Persona 5 Royal is a game full to the brim with great characters, an engaging story, and combat that will keep players wanting more till the very end. This lengthy tale has many memorable moments, with the art style adding an exceptional level of flair to the simplest interactions in the game.

13 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released back in 2017, it is still a fantastic game to play. The vast open world is full of puzzles and combat encounters. True to the franchise players take on the role of Link and must save Hyrule from Calamity Gannon.

There are plenty of hidden areas to explore and friends to make in the game. Breath of the Wild is a great single-player experience, offering hours of entertainment. It is also worth noting that a sequel will release in 2022.

Note: Breath of the Wild is more of an adventure game than an RPG, but it is too big of a title to not recommend to Genshin Impact players.

12 Immortals Fenyx Rising

Immortals Fenyx Rising takes players on a grand adventure to save the Greek gods. Players take on the role of Fenyx and must wield the powers of each of the gods to defeat Typhon.

The world is full of life and there is plenty to do in every region. Environmental puzzles, hidden treasures, and challenging vaults cover the world. The game also incorporates big and small Greek myths. The myths are incorporated in a way that can make even the most serious mythology fan laugh.

Those looking for a Genshin Impact-type experience on the Nintendo Switch should start with Breath of the Wild because it is one of the best titles on the console, however, Immortals Fenyx Rising’s combat and story presentation are closer to miHoYo’s game.

11 Dauntless

Players can team up together and hunt down powerful creatures in Dauntless. Dauntless is an MMORPG that offers plenty of action-packed combat.

Players are able to customize their Slayer’s appearance with hundreds of armor pieces and a wide selection of weapons. With so many customization options Dauntless gives players the ability to play how they want.

10 Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age

In Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age, players take on the role of the Luminary. Players will have to protect that land from destruction while being hunted. The single-player game features turn-based combat and plenty of quests.

This version of the game also allows players to switch between 3D HD or 2D 16-bit modes. Players can also choose which version of the game’s soundtrack they want to hear.

9 NEO: The World Ends With You

Square Enix’s highly anticipated sequel to 2007’s The World Ends with You returns players to Shibuya to once again take part in the Reapers’ Game. As Neo: The World Ends With You was designed specifically for home consoles, it is a full 3D game with combat that flows better than the system found in its predecessor’s Switch version. Stuck in a life-or-death game, Rindo and Fret assemble a team of quirky characters as they seek to top the contest’s leaderboard to avoid a tragic fate that awaits the ultimate loser.

Along with having an anime-inspired aesthetic that should please Genshin Impact fans, Neo’s team-focused combat is free-flowing, fast-paced, and constantly evolving through pins that unlock new moves. Shibuya is minuscule compared to Teyvat, but Neo’s world oozes charm and personality.

8 Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom - Prince’s Edition

Originally released for PS4 and Windows, Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom made its way to the Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2021. Featuring six playable characters that utilize different weapon types, Ni no Kuni 2 has an accessible hack-and-slash combat system that also includes a fun mechanic that involves creatures known as Higgledies.

Unlike Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, which is also available on the Switch, Revenant Kingdom didn’t have any direct involvement from Studio Ghibli; however, the sequel’s art direction and visuals are very much inspired by the anime studio’s work. The JRPG’s story takes players to multiple nations, all of which have their own well-defined cultures and curiosities waiting to be discovered.

7 Ys 8: Lacrimosa Of Dana

Anyone looking for an action JRPG is unlikely to go wrong with a Ys title, and Lacrimosa of Dana is the pick of the bunch from the games available on the Switch. Similar to Genshin Impact, Ys 8’s combat allows players to switch between multiple characters who have their own strengths, weaknesses, and combat styles. Team synergy isn’t all that important in Ys 8, but players need to be selective in their compositions to take down some of the game’s hardest bosses. The combat is smooth, explosive, and satisfying.

The game takes place on the mysterious Isle of Seiren, a nature-forward location that is pretty expansive for Ys, even if it doesn’t quite compare to Teyvat. Although Ys games live and die by their gameplay, Lacrimosa of Dana’s narrative is more than serviceable, while the characters are generally likable. Ys 9: Monstrum Nox is also a solid option, but the sequel takes far longer to open up than its predecessor.

6 Fire Emblem: Three Houses

The sixteenth installment of the Fire Emblem franchise, Fire Emblem: Three Houses lets players take on the role of an academy professor. As a professor players must guide their students in academics and tactical battles. As such the gameplay in Fire Emblem: Three Houses has two phases.

The school phase lets players spend time with the playable characters. This phase gives players the ability to shape the combat styles of the characters. While the combat phase features classic map battles with added battalions.

5 Final Fantasy 10/10-2

The HD Remaster of both Final Fantasy 10 and Final Fantasy 10-2 is available as a bundle on the Switch. Both games let players explore the world of Spira, with over 100 combined hours of gameplay.

Final Fantasy 10 lets players take on the role of a star blitzball player who must help save the world from an endless cycle of destruction. While Final Fantasy X-2 takes place two years after the end of the main game. The second installment follows the adventures of Yuna, Rikku, and Paine.

4 Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is an RPG that combines gameplay, narrative, and the aesthetic of Shin Megami Tensei and the Fire Emblem franchise. The game takes place in modern-day Tokyo where an interdimensional evil is invading.

Players will battle through dungeons and find creative ways to defeat enemies. The game features plenty of easter eggs ranging from Fire Emblem references to the entertainment industry.

3 Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - The Golden Country

Players will guide a group of warriors through the history of a doomed kingdom 500 years before the events in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. In Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - The Golden Country players will have to rest at camps, cook, craft items, and share stories.

In addition to the more leisurely aspects of the game, players will have to master every character to defeat Malos. The combat system lets players play as both artificial lifeforms known as Blades and the Drivers controlling them.

2 Monster Hunter Rise

In Monster Hunter Rise, players explore a huge world full of monsters. Players can play in groups with friends or on their own. Monster Hunter Rise introduces more options to use verticality to take down creatures, something the earlier installments in the franchise did not have.

The large variety of weapons and armor is a great way for players to build the character they want. Monster Hunter Rise also introduces a survival mode where players must defend the base village from monsters.

1 Astria Ascending

In Astria Ascending, which will release later this year on September 30th, players will visit five different cities and solve over twenty dungeons. This JRPG takes a more mature and emotional look at the genre.

With over 200 different monsters there are plenty of rewards to collect over the journey. Players will also be able to collect and summon their own legendary beasts to help them fight.

Genshin Impact is currently available on PS5, PS4, PC, Android, and iOS. A Switch port has also been announced.
