While the collective PlayStation consoles have set the record for the most sold units overall, the Switch has also been selling incredibly well. Previously, the Nintendo DS sold about 154 million units over its lifetime, and even the older systems have almost always had fairly good numbers. But the Switch is blowing most of the older consoles out of the water, taking on the PlayStation, which has traditionally been a very difficult contender.

The Nintendo Switch now has the honor of being the fasting-selling console of all time, according to Nintendo. The Switch and Switch Lite (released in fall 2019) have sold 52.48 million units as of December 31, 2019. That’s much faster that the PS4 was able to accomplish the same goal. While the PlayStation has sold more total units, about 106 million, it has been on the market for more than six years.
While Microsoft doesn’t reveal its sales numbers for the Xbox, the Xbox One has sold an estimated 50 million units in the last six years that it has been on the market, making the Xbox One’s numbers incredibly low. That makes the Switch the fastest overall selling unit of all time, and most likely selling better than even the Xbox One.

This is great news for the future of Nintendo. These kind of sales numbers are fantastic news for those who loves Nintendo properties. The super portable Switch and Switch Lite are family-friendly, and with the Animal Crossing-themed Switch to be released in March, the Switch will most likely keep its sales numbers up.
Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch Lite are available at most gaming retailers.
